The Headquarter building has been constructed on an area of 38260 SM consisting of basement and six floors. The height of structure, façade etc. is in tune with the South Block. Being in the heart of the Lutyen’s Delhi, it has been so designed that it matches with the surrounding buildings.
The building required 28430 CM of concrete and 3530 tones of steel. The building had a eco friendly design having its own Sewage Treatment Plant where waste water is treated and re-cycled. Rain water harvesting system has been incorporated by means of seven recharging wells not allowing even a drop of rain water to go as a run off.
The building has a convention center with capacity of 450 with cool lighting and effective acoustics having multi screen projection system, three conference rooms, cafeteria, display area, visitor space etc. The atrium of the building has been so designed like a dome with a polycarbonate sheet so as to make maximum utilization of sun light.
The foundation stone of the building was laid down by Sh. George Fernandes, the then Defence Minister on 12th September 2003. The building was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh on 14th May, 2006.
